100 st. marks place (btwn 1st and A)
I once passed this dumpling place while wandering around East Village with Chich. She had heard good things about it. So the other night, when Stephanie and I failed to find the really good pizza place (apparently they closed or moved), I suggested we look for the ramen places, but found this first. A little pricey for dumplings ($5 for 6 pan-fried, i think), they also weren’t all that amazing. the dough was a little chewy and thick, and the shrimp dumplings were, quite frankly, un-shrimp-tasting. I would say the pork ones were decent, but I think the ones I make with bought dumpling wrappers are better. the only redeeming part of our meal (other than good company) was the “sweetie” dessert dumplings. filled with pumpkin and other stuff, and drizzled with honey, they were definitely the best part of the meal. (the wrapper, unfortunately had some of the same chewy problems, but was more bearable somehow) I think I’ll go to Chinatown next time (or make my own).

isn’t $5 for 6 really close to $8 for 10? i thought that sounded expensive too, given that you can get run of the mill dumplings 5 for $1.
