minca

5th st btwn ave B & C

i’ve been dreaming of minca for months now. seriously, months. C first put ramen on my radar at least 6 months ago when she mentioned some restaurant in the E. village. She later tried one near me, around 10th st or so. then i read a review about minca, something to the effect of proclaiming it the king of all ramen places. THEN, my friend Ch raved about it when i mentioned that i wanted to go.

maybe i just ordered the wrong ramen (Ch suggested soy sauce). I got the basic with stewed pork belly addition (that’s not what it was called, but something like that). We also split some dumplings which were supposed to be great. The dumplings were fine. The ramen was fine, although it had a little bit of a xian taste, as my parents would say. With spicy sauce added, it was better. Overall, the ramen was fine. But not spectacular. Maybe my expectations had just been set too high with the continual hype and delayed consummation. I might go back and try the soy sauce. Or maybe not, and maybe I’ll just go to SuperTaste (see later post on supertaste).

It’s their Miso ramen that I love the best! The other ramen is unique, but not as appealing to me. I think I am biased about the Miso ramen though, because it has corn (my favorite!)…
