Funny, I was just looking up the address of this place online when I ran across a yelp review that pretty much exactly mimicked how I was going to start…

And so I quote: “C. and I met some friends for dinner after work Friday, and there was a two to three hour wait at the Spotted Pig, so we repaired to Dublin 6 instead. A coworker who lived in the area pointed it out as a solid standby restaurant months ago, and it was high time I tried it.

The hostess and our waiter were both awesome — friendly and helpful.”

Minus the part about dinner and the coworker’s recommendation, this was pretty much my experience at dublin 6 several weeks ago now, when N & I had planned on going to the spotted pig for a late Saturday brunch/lunch. I mean really, who wants to wait 1 hour at 2:30 p on a Saturday for lunch?! Especially when you ran 16 miles that morning and only had a small bowl of yogurt because you were expecting to each brunch soon.

Anyways, Dublin 6 has a good brunch special (maybe $14 for entree + 2 drinks – i forget the exact price), friendly, irish waiters, and tasty food. I ordered the Irish breakfast, which was a fun amalgam of lots of tasty foods, but I think my favorite of the three dishes ordered was teh one that N’s cousin ordered — truffled egg in a brioche toast (eggs in a frame style) with asparagus and other accoutrements on the side. it was REALLY good.

So maybe I’ll make it out to the spotted pig one day. But really, this just proves my new theory/lesson learned about New York: Few things are actually worth waiting in line for. Usually, there’s a place just around the corner that is just as good, if not better, and it’s not a scene yet.
