although it turned out that W. had read about this place but not previously been, august turned out to be a gem of the nice, moderately expensive new york restaurant genre. tucked away in w. village, with that typical w. village just-shy-of-sickeningly-cute atmosphere, august serves a typical new american fusion-y menu, combining some eastern european, some french, and some…well, new american. W & i split a delicious charcuterie plate (don’t ask me to remember what was on it now), after which i had one of the most delicious fish dishes i’ve had. it was a whole fish that came with a flavored olive oil “sauce” to pour over it. it was also cooked with other spices that i also can’t remember, but trust me when i say that it was delicious. we sat in the back room, which is a greenhouse that i imagine would be lovely during the day as well.
overall, a lovely place with great food to take a date, or a much-loved friend. appetizers $9-15; entrees $19-25.
